Tax Manager Job Description

- Company Policies and Benefits
- Operating hours are 8:30-5:30 Monday through Friday.
- Dress is business casual Monday through Thursday. Friday is casual day and denim is allowed.
- Work during tax season will result in extended hours and will include work on Saturday mornings. Closer to the deadline, an extra hour to your work day.
- SIMPLE retirement plan in place.
- Health insurance provided via BCBS with an HSA type plan. All employee costs paid by employer. Dependents and spouse deducted from paycheck.
- Dental and Vision insurance is available at employee’s cost.
- Two weeks vacation accrued per year on a monthly basis. It is also a use-it-or-lose policy. No carryover or payment for unused time upon resignation or termination.
- 6 paid days of sick leave available accruing at ½ day per month. Use of future days available. No carryover or payment for unused time upon resignation or termination.
- Days of closure:
- New Year’s Day.
- Day after tax season (usually 4/16)
- Memorial Day
- Fourth of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving (2 days)
- Christmas (2 days)
- Compensation
- This position will be hired at an annual salary of $120,000-$150,000 and will include discretionary bonuses at the end of tax season and at the end of the year.
Bonuses typically range from $10,000-$25,000 depending on performance. - Extra time or overtime is not paid with regard to the position due to the bonus availability.

- Qualifications
- Must have a current CPA license for Texas.
- Must have at least 8-10 years of experience in income tax preparation at federal and state level.
- Must have been exposed to all entity types of income tax filing (individual, corporate, partnership, trust/estate)
- Must have an experience and understanding of the IRC as it relates to the above entities.
- Use of Ultratax is a plus
- Working knowledge on use of Quickbooks desktop and online needed.
- Must be capable of reviewing client’s books and making appropriate adjustments
- Must have experience in using Excel
- Knowledge of use of pivot tables a plus.
- Must be able to research various tax planning matters through RIA Checkpoint.
- Skills
- Needs to be able to review returns without oversight.
- Needs to be able to communicate and direct preparers in their tasks.
- Needs to be able to onboard clients, assign returns, and monitor their progress.
- Needs to be able to talk and discuss with clients their tax situation and be able to explain in terms that the client will understand.
- Needs to be outgoing and not afraid to speak with clients in a physical meeting, zoom meeting, or on the phone.
- Future advancement
- This position is being filled with the intention of this employee being on track to become a partner in the firm. The determination of this employee being “partner material” will be considered within the first two years of employment. A small percentage of ownership of the company will be given to the employee upon this determination with any future increases being paid in some form or fashion.
- Miscellaneous
- A Non Solicitation Agreement must be executed by the employee upon their being hired by the firm.
- Office work environment in place. Work from home is doable and an option on an as needed basis with approval.
