Staff Accountant/Return Preparer

  1. Qualifications
    1. Must have a current CPA license for Texas or in the process of sitting for the exam with parts passed.
    2. Must have at least 2 years of experience in income tax preparation at federal and state level.
    3. Must have some exposure to one the entities listed for income tax filing (individual, corporate, partnership, trust/estate)
    4. Must have basic knowledge and understanding of the IRC.
    5. Use of Ultratax is a plus
    6. Experience with Quickbooks a plus.
    7. Needs to be able to read financial statements and make determinations for various adjusting entries
    8. Needs to be able to prepare basis financial statements.
    9. Must have experience in using Excel
      1. Knowledge of use of pivot tables a plus.
    10. Must be able to research various tax planning matters through RIA Checkpoint.
  2. Personality
    1. Needs to be able to prepare returns to the point of completion.
    2. Needs to be able to communicate to their supervisor any complex matters or issues that need resolution.
    3. Needs to be diligent in maintaining time records daily and be able to work independently.
    4. Needs to be able to communicate with client on items needed to complete their return
    5. Needs to be able to get along with fellow employees on a continual basis.
    6. Needs to be outgoing and not afraid to speak with clients in a physical meeting, zoom meeting, or on the phone.
  3. Miscellaneous
    1. Office work environment in place. Work from home is doable and an option on an as-needed basis with approval.
  4. Company Policies and Benefits
    1. Operating hours are 8:30-5:30 Monday through Friday.
    2. Dress is business casual Monday through Thursday. Friday is casual day and denim is allowed.
    3. Work during tax season will result in extended hours and will include work on Saturday mornings with an occasional Sunday morning.
    4. SIMPLE retirement plan in place.
    5. Health insurance provided via BCBS with an HSA type plan. All employee costs paid by employer.  Dependents and spouse deducted from paycheck.
    6. Dental and Vision insurance is available at employee’s cost.
    7. Two weeks vacation accrued per year on a monthly basis. Is a use it or lose policy.  No carryover or payment for unused time upon resignation or termination.
    8. 6 paid days of sick leave available accruing at ½ day per month. Use of future days available.  No carryover or payment for unused time upon resignation or termination.
    9. Days of closure:
      • New Year’s Day.
      • Day after tax season (usually 4/16)
      • Memorial Day
      • Fourth of July
      • Labor Day
      • Thanksgiving (2 days)
      • Christmas (2 days)
  1. Compensation
    1. This position will be hired at an annual salary of $80,000-$90,000 and will include discretionary bonuses at the end of tax season and at the end of the year.
      Bonuses typically range from $1,000-$5,000 depending on performance.
    2. Extra time is paid at straight hourly rate for hours over 40 hours per week.
  2. Future advancement
    • This position can lead to advancement in the firm. The next step of this position will be tax manager with eventual possible advancement to partner in the firm.
